Our History

Mike Ford, with over 35 years of industry experience, along with three other business executives, started Pro Back Office in 2011. Pro Back Office’s initial business plan was to provide back office professional accounting and operational services to pro-athletes and professional business associations, hence the word “Pro” as part of the company name. After the initial year, the company brought in additional management resources with the right talent and business development experience to respond to the growing demand from small to mid-size business for these same services. In 2012 the company refocused its service offering and client base. Some of the key company milestones since inception include:

  • 2012

    Pro Back Office Rebrands to New Clientele

    Pro Back Office rebrands and focuses its efforts on a different clientele. The new focus was small to mid-size business and nonprofit organizations.

  • 2013

    Scott Palka Joined the Team

    In late 2013, Scott Palka, a 30-year industry veteran including 10 years with EY and PWC, was the right talent to help grow the average revenue per client and consequently introduce PBO to much larger clients. Scott became a minority partner in 2014.

  • 2013-2015

    5th Fastest Growing Company in San Diego

    From 2013-2015, PBO grew 408% and was named the 5th fastest growing business in San Diego that year. Pro Back Office would make the list for 3 consecutive years.

  • 2015-2016

    We Invested in Infrastructure

    Pro Back Office made significant improvements to the company infrastructure throughout 2015 and 2016 which has positioned Pro Back Office for tremendous growth in the years to come.

  • 2017

    We Expanded Into Governance & Compliance

    In early 2017, Pro Back Office acquired the southern California division of IPSA International. They now have the ability to do governance risk and compliance work, serving business from the starts up stage to publicly traded companies.

    Pro Back Office adds New Members to the Executive Team

    Veteran CFOs Francesca San Diego and Greg Leiser joined Pro Back Office’s executive team to help with its future client expansion and diverse service offerings.

  • 2019

    Pro Back Office Rebrands to PBO Advisory Group

    Pro Back Office rebrands its name as it has expanded its service offerings to help businesses from start up to exit. In addition to its outsourced accounting services PBO Advisory Group now offers strategic business consulting and compliance services to help companies that are expanding or focusing on an exit strategy.

    PBO Advisory Group Adds New Members to the Executive Team

    Veteran CFOs Rick Dahlseid and Kristy Facchini join PBO Advisory Group’s executive team to help serve clients at a new strategic level with a broader focus on growth and profitability. This includes nonprofits, which now account for 20% of PBO Advisory Group’s clients.

    A New Minority Partner is Added

    Francesca San Diego becomes a minority partner of PBO Advisory Group after helping the company achieve its most profitable operational year to date.
